general information /

This Artist-in-Residence programme at quartier21/ MuseumsQuartier in Vienna is part of ERSTE Foundation and tranzit’s endeavour to support contemporary art, as it provides young artists from Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovak Republic with a guest studio at MuseumsQuartier in Vienna. Every year, as a result of an open call, five artists are given the opportunity to spend two months in Vienna and live and work in one of the Artist-in-Residence studios. tranzit is responsible for selecting the artists.
The residencies are designed for artists, curators and theoreticians working in the field of contemporary art. Additionally to the studio space, each resident receives a monthly stipend of 1050 EUR.
tranzit is a network of five independent, non-profit organisations in Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovak Republic. Since 2002, tranzit has been developing artistic and cultural activities with a critical approach, fostering a permanent dialogue between local and global culture.
tranzit serves as a platform which aims to inform all those who are active in the international art world about the developments of the contemporary art scene in Central and Eastern Europe. When selecting the programme contents, priority is given to the exchange of ideas between artists, curators, art critics and all those interested in art.
Within the tranzit network, people and institutions collaborate across borders, moving between languages, media, mentalities and histories.
ERSTE Foundation is the main partner of tranzit and also provides financing for the Artist-in Residence programme curated by tranzit.
