Dovile Tumpyté: For Those Who Do Not Know, Ask Those Who Do (1975)

Films by Artūras Barysas-Baras presented at Amateur film festivals

The short For Those Who Do Not Know, Ask Those Who Do (1975) is built around the axis of an absurd gesture of pointing one’s finger to the sky and to the earth in the center of the town, which gains control over a crowd of people and prompts a comic/playful conflict/scrimmage, while the film ends with glimmering disco lights. Barysas’ films abound in this undesirable criticism of Soviet Socialist reality and are generously loaded with humour, expressed by his sophisticated acting, and approach to his directing and cinematography.

For Those Who Do Not Know, Ask Those Who Do (1975) was screened at the 5th Republican (LSSR) Humorous-Satirical Film Festival, 1 April, 1979, and was awarded with the 2nd degree diploma.
